Social Cultural Activities Unit

The Social and Cultural Activities Unit is a division of the university organising social, cultural and arts-related (e.g. conference, concert, and festivals) for university students and the local community. Our aim is to help students value their extra curricular time in the best way possible and, at the same time, to support their personal development through increasing their life quality. The Student Council also carries out its duties and responsibilities as part of our unit. Activities organised by our unit contribute largely to the promotion of the university through increasing the visibility of our institution in the media.

EMU WITH FOLK SONGS

Organised with the purpose of increasing the popularity of folk songs among university students and increasing the university's interaction with other TRNC universities, the event hosts the concerts of the Turkish Folk Song groups of the TRNC Universities and EMU Turkish Folk Music Community as well as a famous folk music singer from Turkey. The event which is open to public and is free of charge hosted famous folk song singers Yavuz BİNGÖL, Musa EROĞLU, Kubat, Soner OLGUN, Zara and  Edip AKBAYRAM during the previous years.

ROCK'N EMU

Rock'N EMU is an event organised for students, staff members and members of the community who are rock lovers. Along with our university's rock groups and local rock music group, the event traditionally hosts a famous rock group from Turkey. The event which is open to public and is free of charge hosted famous rock groups including Grup Red, Kurban, Gripin, Hayko CEPKİN, Gitarizma, Pentagram and Mor ve Ötesi during the previous years.

TURKISH ARTS MUSIC NIGHT

Turkish Arts Music Night is an event organised to increase the popularity of the Turkish Arts Music among the students of Eastern Mediterranean University. Along with EMU Turkish Arts Music chorus which has been established with the purpose of increasing the interaction between the university personnel and students, the event also hosts a famous Turkish Arts Music Singer every year. It is also worth mentioning that the event is open to public and free-of-charge. During some of the previous organisations, Eastern Mediterranean University hosted famous Turkish Arts Music singers Melihat GÜLSES, Alaaddin YAVAŞÇA, Zekai TUNCA and Nalan ALTINÖRS.

FALL AND SPRING SEMESTER GRADUATION CEREMONY CONCERTS

Every year, a farewell concert for graduating students is organised during the Fall and Spring Semester Graduation Ceremony.  The organisation traditionally hosts the concert of a famous singer, who also signs the farewell song with the graduating students at the end of the convocation ceremony. The organisation hosted popular singers during the previous years including Özcan DENİZ, Işın KARACA, Levent YÜKSEL, Leman SAM, Yaşar, Atiye, İzel, Yeni Türkü, Özlem TEKİN, Burcu GÜNEŞ, Direnen MIZIKACILAR, Ziynet SALİ and Mustafa CECELİ.

SPRING FESTIVAL

Organised by the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate annually in May, the Spring Festival aims to support the social and cultural development of students along with their academic studies. The festival is open to all students, staff members and the local community. Participated by around 60,000 people every year, the 4-day festival commences with a cortege walk and offers an array of stands, workshops, cultural and arts events, sports activities, dance shows and concerts of famous local and international singers. Among notable singers who took part in the Spring Festivals were Candan ERÇETİN, Dolapdere Bing Gang, Hande YENER, Moğollar, Yavuz BİNGÖL, Sertap ERENER, MFÖ, Okan ERSAN and Ola ONABULE, Manga, Direnen MIZIKACILAR, Volkan KONAK, Yüksek SADAKAT, Nilüfer, Model, Murat DALKILIÇ, Kıraç, Şebnem FERAH, Murat BOZ, Anathema, Athena, Duman and Sıla.

SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL

Organised annually and in collaboration with Architecture Faculty, the Sand Sculpture Festival takes place at EMU Beach Club. Organised with the purpose of welcoming the summer season, this unique organisation attracts popular interest both amongst university students and Famagusta community.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The operations of the Student Council, which carries out its activities under the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, are overseen by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs.

Established with the aim of specifying the educational, health, sports and cultural needs and demands of students studying at Faculties, Schools and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, communicating these demands to the executive organs and, most importantly, establishing effective communication between executive organs and students, the Student Council acts as a bridge between students and University Executive Organs (primarily the Rector's Office) in transferring students' problems, views and thoughts to the said administrative bodies.

Student Council elections take place once a year and the Executive Board formed according to the election results carries out relevant duties and services until the Student Council elections of the upcoming year. The Student Council functions in accordance with the establishment and operation principles of Eastern Mediterranean University Student Council Regulations.
