This Unit ensures the organization of the annual activity plans for the student clubs. On behalf of the clubs, it monitors the suitability of the planned activities to the funds and the budget.
Two main types of clubs operating in accordance with the provisions of the 'Student Club Foundation and Operation Regulation' are available within the Directorate: 'Clubs with Social Aims' undertake the organization of the social and cultural activities while 'Clubs with Occupational Aims' focus on the academic areas operating under the Eastern Mediterranean University. As well as these two types of clubs, folk dance, dance, theatre, musical, underwater, photography, fine arts, graphic design and new style media clubs supported by professional educators operate under the Directorate. The Directorate also offers courses such as guitar, photography, ceramic, hand crafts and dance.
As well as becoming a member of a club based on individual interests, every EMU student is given the opportunity of forming a new club based on specific areas of interest. In this way, students are expected to improve themselves regarding socio-cultural and occupational areas, to gain the skills of communicating and expressing themselves effectively, to organize and take part in joint activities related with the interest area of the club, and to gain the habit of spending their free time effectively by having fun together.
Principles for the operation and the organization of the Student Clubs are determined by the "Student Club Foundation and Operation" Regulation. Student Clubs determine their administrative board by election. Each club's administrative board communicates their requests to the Directorate. Election details, duties and responsibilities of the club administrative board are applied in accordance with the relevant by-laws and under the authority of the relevant unit.
Club Instructors: Based on the article entitled 'Club Instructors' in 'the Student Club Foundation and Operation Regulatıon', club instructors may be appointed to provide training for club members in accordance with the aims, mission and the needs of the clubs. Duties of the club instructors include the provision of specific training for the club members in order to enable them to pursue club activities more effectively.
Club Advisor: In accordance with the article entitled 'Club Advisors' in the 'Student Club Foundation and Operation Regulation and subject to the approval of the Social Activities Directorate, full time senior instructors or lecturers who can provide consultation for the club are elected by the Club Administrative Board upon receiving their consent. Names of the elected advisors are then forwarded to the Student Clubs Unit. The advisor is appointed following the approval of the Rector's Office.
