EMU Theatre Community Hosts Istanbul State Theatre Artists Hakan Meriçliler and Vehbi Akintürk

As part of the 4th “Duvar” Workshop Days organized Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Theatre Community, Istanbul State Theatre Artists Hakan Meriçliler and Vehbi Akıntürk got together with the students. First workshop took place on Friday, 13 December 2024 at 07:00 p.m. at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall where Hakan Meriçliler carried out a talk  titled “Oyunculuk Atölyesi” (Acting Workshop) moderated by EMU Theatre Community Chair Can Birlik. On the other hand, the second workshop took place on Saturday, 14 December 2024 at 02:00 p.m. at EMU Activity Center. Polat Emence moderated the said event that hosted Vehbi Akıntürk as a guest speaker who delivered a talk titled “Oyun Çalışması ve Topluluk Yönetimi Atölyesi” (Play Study and Community Management Workshop).

“University Education is not only Limited to Attending Classes”

Delivering the opening speech of the event, EMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu said; “Dear friends, I welcome you all. It is amazing to see such a vibrant crowd here today. We are honored to host some incredibly talented artists. As Eastern Mediterranean University, we take great pride in having our students organize events that allow us to make an impact. A university education goes beyond attending classes in lecture halls; it also plays a crucial role in social development. Therefore, I encourage you to keep activities like theatre, music, and sports as part of your life. Even if you are not actively involved, take time to watch theatre performances, enjoy music, and stay active through sports. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate and the EMU Theatre Community for their efforts in making this event a reality.

“Oyunculuk Atölyesi” with Hakan Meriçliler

The workshop, moderated by EMU Theatre Community Chair Can Birlik, explored various aspects of Hakan Meriçliler’s acting career. Meriçliler shared stories about his early days in acting and his journey through the worlds of theatre and television, offering valuable insights into his career path. Discussions about the prominent projects and characters he brought to life captured significant attention. Meriçliler also inspired the audience with his detailed analysis of characters from his work in television and theater. Furthermore, the experienced actor led a comprehensive on-stage acting workshop for the theatre club members, focusing on acting techniques, stage presence, body language, and role interpretation. At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Zorlu presented Meriçliler with a plaque as a gesture of gratitude.

“Oyun Çalışması ve Topluluk Yönetimi  Atölyesi” with Vehbi Akıntürk

On the second day of the event, Vehbi Akıntürk met with students during a workshop moderated by Polat Emence. The workshop attracted great interest from the participants. Akıntürk shared his experiences from the play study process and offered key advice on managing communities. Underlining the importance of thorough preparation before performing on stage and stressing the value of strong communication within the team, Akıntürk spoke about the critical role effective management plays in ensuring the success of theatre groups. At the end of the session, the EMU Theatre Community presented Akıntürk with a plaque in recognition of his contributions.
