Center of Research and Communication for Peace (CRCP), operating under the Faculty of Communication at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), will hold the 8th International Communication and Media Studies Conference on 12-14 November 2026 at Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz Hall located in the EMU Faculty of Communication. Being organized with “Yapay Zekâ Çağında Güven ve Hakikat (Trust and Truth in the Age of AI)" theme this year, the conference will be opened on Monday, 12 November 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
The conference will explore the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the production, circulation, and consumption of information within the framework of truth, trust, ethics, reliability, and accountability.
CRCP Chairperson Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Türksoy stated that the conference aims to bring together researchers from different disciplines to engage with current debates in the fields of communication and media. She noted that the conference will feature discussions on a broad range of topics, from journalism and political communication to strategic communication, advertising and public relations, as well as digital platforms, visual culture, cinema, and new forms of storytelling enabled by artificial intelligence.
Stating that the conference aims to bring together national and international academics, researchers, and postgraduate students, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türksoy added that paper proposals in both Turkish and English are being accepted.
EMU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy stated that the increasing speed of access to information and content production brought about by artificial intelligence has also raised new questions concerning accuracy, reliability, ethical responsibility, and the role of media professionals. Prof. Dr. Ersoy noted that, by bringing together academics and researchers from different disciplines, the conference will contribute to a comprehensive discussion of the impact of this transformation on the fields of communication and media. He also emphasized that the conference will host a wide range of significant academic studies.
Due to the strong interest shown in the conference by participants from Türkiye and various other countries, researchers have been granted additional time to submit their proposals. Accordingly, the deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to 11 October 2026.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Hanitzsch, one of the leading scholars in international journalism research, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Halilsoy, a faculty member of the EMU Department of Physics and an expert in theoretical physics, are among the invited speakers of the conference. Based at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Prof. Dr. Hanitzsch is widely known for his research on comparative journalism, journalism cultures, war reporting, and the transformation of the journalism profession. He served as President of the International Communication Association (ICA) during the 2025–2026 term and currently continues to chair the Worlds of Journalism Study, an international research project that comparatively examines journalism across the globe.
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Halilsoy serves as a Distinguished Professor in the EMU Department of Physics. His areas of expertise include Einstein's theory of general relativity, exact solutions to Einstein's field equations, gravitational waves, black holes and wormholes, as well as related space-time structures. Prof. Dr. Halilsoy has been conducting research in the fields of general relativity and mathematical physics for many years and has authored numerous international scientific publications.
